The Saginaw Police Reserve unit has served the City of Saginaw since 1978. Under the control and supervision of the Saginaw Police Department, the Reserves serve the community in a variety of ways. Serving subpoenas, writing non-moving violations, traffic control, and working events within the city are a few examples.
Reserve officers work on a volunteer basis. The Reserves depend on grant money and fundraisers to purchase equipment needed in their daily service.
Monthly training is made available to Reserve officers by police department personnel. Some types of training has included Taser, Glock .40, and shotgun familiarization, as well as defensive driving.
